  • Reference Management Tools also knows as also known as (citation managers or bibliographic management software) 


What is a Citation?

  • Citation is the reference to original authors for using their work in your research article and to give credit to authors for using their intellectual work.

  • To Provide feather reading to the readers of your paper.
  • To give authenticity to your paper.

Step By Step Guide to Use Zotero

About Zotero Reference manager.

According to Zotero official website ("Zotero | Your personal research assistant", 2020) "Zotero is a free, open-source research tool that helps you collect, organize, and analyze research and share it in a variety of ways. Zotero includes the best parts of older reference manager software — the ability to store author, title, and publication fields and to export that information as formatted references — and the best aspects of modern software and web applications, such as the ability to organize, tag, and search in advanced ways. Zotero interacts seamlessly with online resources: when it senses you are viewing a book, article, or another object on the web, it can automatically extract and save complete bibliographic references. Zotero effortlessly transmits information to and from other web services and applications, and it runs both as a web service and offline on your personal devices."

Step.1 Download Zotero 

To use Zotero reference manager on your computer you need to install the Zotero application and Zotero web connector from the official website of Zotero that is https://www.zotero.org/download/



Step. 2 Install Zotero on your compter.


After the Download, we have to install Zotero App on our computer, and also we have to install a web extension for the web browser.



Step. 3 logging into the Zotero and for the use of the Reference Manager Tool so that we can sync all resources and literature in the Zotero application.


Step.4 Create a Library.

Now create a new Library and give a name to the library according to your Research work where we add all the articles and sources and literature that are used to cite in our Articles after the literature search According to your need.


Step.5 Add Titles and Article and literature which are going to use in your articles.

After the literature search form, the different sources and databases according to your need now we can add literature in Zotero in a different way for example.

5.1 Add literature Directly from the Database with the help of a web browser connector of Zotero. For Example, we are taking the Google Scholar database to understand the Adding Process.




5.2 We Can also add Literature from the DOI and other Identification for example ISBN, PMIDs,arXive, and many more.




5.3 We can also Add Literature manually by entering the Meta date Details


Step.6 Install Add-on MS Word Plugin.

Zotero is working Perfectly well with the MS Word to use Zotero with the MS Word we have to install an add-on MS Word Plugin. and after the successful installation, we can see Zotero Menu in the MS Menu option.

Zotero home > Edit Menu > Preferences >  Cite > Word Processor. 

Step.7 Using the Zotero reference manager in the MS Word.


7.1  Add in-text citation in summarize, paraphrase, or quote in your paper by putting the cursor where you want to add an in-text citation shown in the picture.


You Can also Select Citation Style According to your need



7.2 Add all the references at the last of your paper by Add a bibliography option which is shown in the picture.
