OCLC is a global library cooperative that provides shared technology services, original research, and community programs for its membership and the library community at large. OCLC are librarians, technologists, researchers, pioneers, leaders, and learners. With thousands of library members in more than 100 countries, OCLC comes together as OCLC to make information more accessible and more useful.

OCLC was founded in 1967 as the Ohio College Library Center, a library computer network among 54 college libraries in Ohio. In 1977, OCLC opened its membership to libraries beyond the original Ohio consortia and changed its governance and its name from the Ohio College Library Center to OCLC, Inc. and OCLC Online Computer Library Center in 1981. Today, more than 60,000 libraries in 123 countries and territories around the world use OCLC services to locate, acquire, catalog, lend, and preserve library materials.[2] The organization was founded by Fred Kilgour, and its offices are located in Dublin, Ohio.(SOURCE https://www.newworldencyclopedia.org/entry/Online_Computer_Library_Center)
